We all breathe at different rates. That’s why moonbird calculates your optimal breathing rate.

To determine your personal breathing rate follow the ‘Personal exercise’ journey and follow the instructions in the app. We calculate your personal rhythm using a PPG sensor (similar to the finger-clip sensor used in hospitals to measure your oxygen level) and algorithms that find the heart rate to which your body responds most to.

During the exercise, make sure your thumb makes sufficient contact with the sensor, without pressing too hard, as if you would touch your smartphone screen. We advise you to look at your screen so you can follow the changes in your heart rate, heart rate variability and your coherence level.

What is my heart rate (HR)?

The number of times your heart beats per minute.

What is my heart rate variability (HRV) ?

The rhythm of a healthy heart is irregular, with the intervals between consecutive heart beats constantly varying. This variation between heart beats is called heart rate variability (HRV). HRV is an important indicator of an individual’s capacity to effectively adapt to stress and environmental demands.

What is cardiac coherence?

Coherence is the degree of synchronization between your heart rate and your breathing rate. Scientific publications show that slow-paced breathing induces higher values of HRV, which are linked to a state of relaxation.

During an exercise, follow the changes in your HR, and try to maximize your HRV and your coherence level.
